He tries to be a good husband and father, but his lost dream of glory eats at him, and causes him to make a decision that threatens to tear his family apart.

FENCES is directed by Denzel Washington from a screenplay by August Wilson, adapted from Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play. The film stars Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Jovan Adepo, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson, and Saniyya Sidney.

Washington and Davis' performances... invite us in to an intimate place that's messy and painful and hard to shake. It's as good as screen acting gets.
-Chris Nashawaty, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

In bringing August Wilson to the screen for the first time, director-star Washington does the playwright proud by refusing to slice Fences into small pieces and serve it to short attention spans.
-Peter Travers, ROLLING STONE
