Intrepid Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot is on the case in this star-studded and stylish screen adaptation of Agatha Christie's classic mystery tale.

On a pleasure cruise down the Nile, a hateful and arrogant heiress is murdered and any one of a boatload of suspects, all with motive and something to hide, may have committed the deed. Can Poirot identify the criminal before the ship reaches its destination?

Among the suspects are Angela Lansbury as a drunken, ditzy romance novelist; Bette Davis as a snobbish socialite with Maggie Smith in tow as her acid-tongued friend; Jack Warden as a comic Swiss doctor with a music hall accent; and Jon Finch as a rabid Marxist.

A follow-up to the remarkably successful Murder on the Orient Express, the plot is suitably tricky, the Egyptian locations dazzling and all the actors on-board seem to be having a terrific time – including Peter Ustinov who, with a masterful sense of wit, inhabits the iconic role of the moustachioed detective.
