A culmination of thirty years work by Martin Scorsese, SILENCE is the master director’s passion project, adapted from Shusaku Endo’s epic novel about Portuguese missionaries in 16th century Japan.

Jesuit priests Sebastião Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) and Francisco Garrpe (Adam Driver) arrive in Japan searching for their mentor Father Ferreira (Liam Neeson), who has gone missing with rumours circling that he had renounced his faith. With persecution against the foreign religion brutal and unrelenting, Japan is not a safe place to be a Christian, and as the two priests continue on their quest amid the threat of apostasy or death, the very ideas of faith, loyalty and betrayal will be put to the test and drastically transformed.

No one with a genuine belief in the possibilities and mysteries of cinema would think of missing Silence. It's essential filmmaking from the church of Scorsese, a modern master who lives and breathes in the images he puts on screen.
